SeanSho

I don't feel like it. I want to sit outside at a coffee shop alone with my laptop and play minesweeper even though I have no idea how to play. Just the type of craving I haven't been able to satisfy since moving just outside DC. The area I live in consists mainly of chain-i-fied Starbucksian coffee/liquor hybrid cafes and Dunkin Donuts (I prefer donuts in the morning to a screwdriver). There are one or two places that resemble the reconfigured house type cafe, but they're either way too crowded, have lousy parking, or the coffee tastes like ass. Most of my friends who visit from out of town aren't bothered by this because they're too interested in seeing bills full of rights and monuments to monuments with a Mocha Frappe in hand, but as a citizen of the area surrounding our nations capital, I demand better. Here's my solution: um...someone send me some good coffee? pleeease?
I was talking to a friend the other day about the first time I heard Sade's "Smooth Operator" on what was (at that time) the equivalent of a 'smooth jazz' station. The conversation came about after bringing up the new CD from Norah Jones. "Come away with Me" is a sultry, yet subtly twangy collection with so much range you hardly notice it. Norah was raised by her mother (and her dad is Ravi Shankar) in Texas before moving to New York as a young adult, quickly landing gigs at Village jazz clubs. You can feel the dirt road meet the cracks in the pavement in most of the tracks, while the first single "Don't Know Why" is one of the two songs that might pass better at the Blue Note than Rodney's Hoe-Down. This is bound for as much commercial success as it can handle, I just hope it evens out after the initial swarm of twangy-jazz bandwagoners. GREAT music.
Back from LA and Minneapolis, it's me SeanSho with the obvious farmers tan to prove that I've been somewhere (outside even!). The FamilySho is even more spread out now with BrotherSho learning to fly and force fed some manners at this military-type flight school. He gets to learn to fly AND eat the ground all at the same time! Got to see SisterSho and NieceSho recently and they're both lovely. SeanSho looks toward Norfolk, New York and possibly Minneapolis again in the coming months. Keep your futon couch open. A few new pics in the FotoMat, a new Top 5 and an all new Top 5! Hava-you-some-fun!
